In our pre-school room independence is further encouraged with a self-registration in the morning and afternoon. Our staff support the children with school readiness we do this through providing activities which promote self-confidence, independence and improve fine motor skills.
Our Pre-School lunchtime is 11:00
As with all the age groups of children at Selwyn Nursery, we observe and plan for children individually, ensuring that each child has the opportunity to learn and develop a broad range of skills through play and discovery, based on their interests and level of development.
In the Pre-School Room, there are lots of opportunities for discovery and adventure:
• Music and Movement sessions.
• Story telling with puppets and story bags.
• Sensory play with sand, water, gloop and other messy play!
• Role-play and many other activities.
Before your child starts school we arrange play visits for their teachers to come and visit them in nursery, this will enable their teacher to meet them in a more informal relaxed way. We try to ensure that their transition to school is smooth and enjoyable for you and your child.
We focus on learning through play, and children have great fun playing with educational games, toys and using various types of exciting resources. Children like to repeat favourite games over and over again which is an essential element of learning. These games give children the opportunity to develop name recognition, hear letter sounds, and familiarise themselves with number digits, preparing them for starting school.
Selwyn Nursery follows the statutory framework for learning ‘Development matters’. This framework sets the standards for learning development and care for children from birth to five years (the end of reception).
